Dig Deeper

Hi and welcome to Van Life Devotions. When we were in Cobar (a town in central western New South Wales) we stood on the view deck of the Fort Bourke Hill that looks down into New Cobar Mine. The mine is still operational and you’ll likely see some vehicles going in and out of the hole at the bottom of the snaking path. About 200 dump trucks full gets pulled out each week. Cobar's main economy is metals such as copper and gold.

When God rescued the Hebrews out of bondage in Egypt, He promised to take them to their new land. And after describing that this new land will be plentiful in produce and water, God then said this in Deuteronomy chapter 8 verse 9, “a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills”. God saw that responsible and well managed mining was good and benefits humanity.

There might be copper in hills of Canaan and gold within the depths of this mine, but God has planned for His people a new home – the new heavenly Jerusalem has gold as bitumen and on-nixs adorning the foundations of the walls. It sounds beautiful doesn’t it?

The challenge is, you have to mine for Jesus to experience such real and every lasting treasure. Some only scratch the surface. When storms come their faith is blown away. Digging deeper and you’ll find real authentic treasure that will go on to eternity in which it is just so beautiful.

In your travels, keep digging deeper into God’s Word and enjoy the nuggets of treasures that gives real life.

Let's Pray

Dear God. Thank you for miners that work so hard. Protect them. Help us to dig deeper into You and Your Word and may we find nuggets of treasures that will lead to eternal life with You in heaven. O God, preserve us who travel; surround us with your loving care; protect us from every danger; and bring us in safety to our journey’s end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
